Ali Fazal

On the big screen actor Ali Fazal has many great roles under his belt, and now the actor will grace the world of web series with Mirzapur , in which he will be playing a thug.

The show will see Ali playing a gangster for the first time in his career. Produced by Excel Entertainment, apart from Ali the series also stars Vikrant Massey, Pankaj Tripathi, Rasika Dugal and Shriya Pilgaonkar in pivotal roles.

Based on drug and ammunition smuggling, the series will see Ali in a role quite unlike his previous ones, for which the Victoria & Abdul actor beefed up his otherwise lean physique.

While not much has been divulged about the show, we hear that Ali compared it to the likes of the 1972 Francis Ford Coppola directed classic, The Godfather, based on the Italian mafia starring Marlon Brando as the patriarch of the Corleone family, as well as to the Netflix original series, Narcos based on the life of the Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar, and his rise to power.

When probed about the comparison he made, the Fukrey actor says, “I mustn’t glorify Mirzapur and compare it to classics such as The Godfather series or Narcos. But the graphs are similar, except of course our world of Mirzapur is unique to its own. For the sake of comparison I chose those two iconic cinematic experiences. On a personal level it was a frustrating yet fruitful experience. It say frustrating because of the endless hours of training and eating along with the filming process.”
