Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Zoya Akhtar to be honoured at WIFT

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be awarded the Meryl Streep Award for Excellence at Women in Film and Television India awards, in it’s first edition that is going to take place in Washington D.C., on September 8. The award will be honouring the best female talent in Bollywood and Hollywood. 

In an offcial statement, WIFT India founding president Petrina D’Rozario expalined, “Our aim here is to encourage others to think outside the norm of gender-based hiring practices and give females of all nationalities an equal chance to vie in fields dominated by men.” Veteran actress Meryl Streep was herself awarded the Women in Film award in the year 1998. 

Along with Aishwarya, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar will also receive the Wyler Award for Excellence in Direction. The award has been named after legendary Oscar-winning director William Wyler and his daughter Catherine Wyler who was senior vice-president of production at Columbia Pictures.
