Rajkumar Santoshi to direct Kaithi?

Film studio Reliance Entertainment has taken over the rights of the film Kaithi. Starring Tamil star Karthi and the brother of Tamil star Suriya, the film was a super hit when it released last year. The film also had Narain and Dheena in it, was produced by SR Prakashbabu, and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Now, the film is being remade in Hindi, with many Hindi filmmakers lobbying for the rights of the film. “I saw Rajkumar Santoshi sit inside a single screen in Goregaon watching the film because even he had heard a lot about the movie. Santoshi’s mother is a Tamilian and he understands the language. But the makers — which include Reliance as well as Prakashbabu — have not announced a director as yet for the film,” says our source.

Our sources back in Chennai, however, tell us that it may well be Lokesh who may also direct the Hindi version, but nothing has been finalised for this cop and criminal action film. Kaithi, for those who are unaware, is the Tamil adaptation of the Hindi-Urdu word Qaidi.
