Satte Pe Satta remake with Salman Khan?

A few days ago, we had told you that Farah Khan and Rohit Shetty narrated the idea of the Satte Pe Satta remake to Salman Khan. Well, the truth is that it was not Farah who approached Salman with the film idea, but another Khan — Kabir.

To put things in perspective director Farah Khan and producer Rohit Shetty wanted to remake the 1982 Amitabh Bachchan starrer Satte Pe Satta, but the rights have been taken over by Rajesh Vasani of Paras Publicity. We are told by sources that Vasani’s deal with the film’s producers and presenters Reliance Entertainment for buying the remake did not come through because of the money, and the deal offered to the industry veteran.

Satte Pe Satta itself was inspired by a Hollywood film from 1954 named Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, but Raj N. Sippy — who directed Satte Pe Satta in 1982 — changed the script a bit and gave the lead star a double role and added another heroine for him, making it a different project altogether.

A source reveals, “When Rohit Shetty, Reliance Entertainment and Farah Khan wanted to remake Satte Pe Satta, they could not add the other character Babu, also played by Bachchan, and the character of Seema, played by Ranjeeta Kaur. Hence, they opted to remake the Jack Cummings-produced Seven Brides For Seven Brothers with permission and rights from the Hollywood producers from Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM). Satte Pe Satta had Amitabh in a double role of the hero as well as the bad guy who has a change of heart, which is not there in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. And since there was not so much of ‘drama’, Hrithik Roshan finally opted out of Farah’s project, which has apparently now gone to Ajay Devgn,”

The twist in this tale is that Vasani and Sangeeta Ahir — who was once a producer for Rohit Shetty — got together to plan the remake for Satte Pe Satta. Sangeeta was one of the producers on a couple of films on the Golmaal franchise and also on the Ram Lakhan redux that got stalled.

Ahir has now greenlit the film with Kabir Khan, who approached his Ek Tha Tiger and Tubelight hero Salman Khan to star in it. “Salman has apparently given him the nod, and a formal announcement will be made soon. Salman, however, will start work on the film only after he finishes Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kick 2,” informs our source.

Salman has played a double role in Judwaa as well as Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, and it will be his third double role film if he signs on the film and starts work.

The question that remains unanswered amidst this is whether or not Shetty and Farah go ahead with their plans to work on their remake of Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.
