Exclusive: What prompted Zoya Akhtar to turn producer?

Zoya Akhtar is branching out with her own production house, Tiger Baby Productions, away from brother Farhan Akhtar and partner Ritesh Sidhwani. The move is being seen by the industrywallahs a woman wanting to branch out on her own and make films without any interference.

All of Zoya’s films till date have been produced by Ritesh and Farhan and perhaps the Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt starrer film Gully Boy produced by Tiger Baby will also have them as co-producers because Farhan is keen to be a part of his sister’s career.

“Farhan wants to be a part of his sister’s film and hence he offered to be the co-producer. Zoya has agreed because of a personal equation with her brother. But, she has professional differences with Ritesh and Farhan and hence does not want to mix her drinks,” says a source.

The move reminds us of Pooja Bhatt whom many years ago had turned producer at a tender age of 23 also branched out starting her own production house Pooja Bhatt Productions and then Fish Eye Network while her father and uncle already had a Vishesh Films banner.
