Mumbai: The teaser of ‘Manikarnika’ begins with a voice-over from Amitabh Bachchan and you’d probably remember his ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ first as it might seem on similar lines.

But the Aamir Khan-starrer is a fictional story, while the story of Rani Lakshmibai, from the 1857 movement, is among the most remembered and respected tales of the freedom movement.

Kangana Ranaut plays Manikarnika Tambe aka Rani of Jhansi, who not just fiercely tears the British flag, but rips apart their soldiers single-handedly with her sword and anger.

Manikarnika is a queen and naturally is seen dressed beautifully with classy sarees and other traditional attires, just like the splendid and grand palace she lives in.

She has a little girl to take care of, but that doesn’t affect her determination to fight for the freedom of the country.

Kangana is extremely convincing while taking on the enemies, riding the horse, and attacking them with swords, guns or the bow and arrow, but not that much in her dialogue delivery, something we hope to get better clarity on when the trailer releases.

‘Manikarnika’, written by ‘Baahubali’ writer V Vijeyandra Prasad and directed by Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi aka Krish, with Kangana currently helming the patchwork, releases on January 25.
