Mumbai: An FIR was filed against Rishi Kapoor at the Khar police station in Mumbai, for ‘illegally’ cutting a tree, on the basis of a complaint filed by the  Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, according to a report in Times of India.

Kapoor had taken permission from the BMC to trim the tree as it was hindering the construction work at the building he is constructing in place of his Pali Hill Bungalow, that he has demolished.

Civic officials, however, said that the tree-cutting was illegal, apparently because it was trimmed more than what was permitted and hence sent him a show-cause notice and decided to file a case against him when they were not satisfied with his explanation.

The FIR has also been filed against the contractor who Kapoor hired for the work. Kapoor had earlier claimed that the he was not aware of about the issues related to the tree-cutting as he had hired the contractor for the work.

Kapoor told the website, "I had taken all required permission to do so, which I have provided them to see. This is plain harassment from jealous neighbours which was expected."

The matter will now be investigated by the police and necessary action will be taken according to it.
