Mumbai: A few days back, Swara Bhasker wrote an open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali about her issue with ‘Padmaavat’. The actress, who claims to have been in support of the film, went for the movie on the first day-first show, but in the letter, this ‘Anarkali Of Aarah’ actress said she felt “reduced to a vagina” arguing that the practice of Sati shouldn’t be glorified.

Bollywood celebrities reacted to the letter and even Swara ended up saying there was no mal-intend behind the letter, but then we would never know what the cast of the movie felt about the letter. So Deepika was asked about it.

She replied by telling India Today, “She (Swara) probably missed the disclaimer at the beginning of the film. You probably went out to buy some popcorn and missed the initial disclaimers that come out. I think, secondly, the fact that it is important to view a film in totality and to see in which period it was set in. Third of all, I think for me this film is not just about the act (jauhar) that they all committed, but it stood for so much more. For me, it’s a celebration of women and their strength, power and dignity.”

As for the men of the film – Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Shahid found the letter a bit “odd”, Sanjay defended the Jauhar scene by calling it an act of war and Ranveer simply went on to say that he received a message from Swara congratulating him for his performance in the film.
