Bharti Singh Faces Backlash over Body-Shaming Comment on Laughter Chef 3
In the lighter moments, Bharti joked about the actress Ayesha Khan’s height in comparison to comedian Krushna Abhishek’s height
Comedian & Laughter Chefs Season 3 host Bharti Singh is caught up in a controversy due to body-shaming comments that were made in a recent episode of her show. This happened when the cast of Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 visited her program for promotional shoots, and her comments about them have apparently drawn negative responses from audiences.
In the lighter moments, Bharti joked about the actress Ayesha Khan’s height in comparison to comedian Krushna Abhishek’s height. She said she could smell the arrival of Krushna when she saw the former actress, as if she was comparing the tallness of the actress to his own height. The joke immediately sparked an awkward reaction from the audience present.
Ayesha Khan was visibly uncomfortable in the aftermath of this statement. This is because she was observed trying to inch closer to Kapil Sharma while attempting to cover up her stomach. Kapil Sharma, observing everyone was uncomfortable, asked Bharti if she was complimenting them. Actress Parul Gulati also intervened, telling them that she should not make a statement like that. This led to some people accepting her apology, including her, who apologized with, “Sorry, I am pregnant.”
Soon after the episode was telecast, screenshots of this dialogue became really popular on all social media sites and drew harsh reactions from all netizens who pointed out this dialogue as insensitive and unnecessary, where they said comedy should never come at the expense of someone’s dignity. Netizens also questioned the reason cited by Bharti for this body shaming when pregnancy is not an excuse for this act.
This incident has again brought to the fore the concerns regarding body image, respect, and the limits of comedy on television. Although comedy is all about spontaneity, the public has increasingly called for accountability and greater awareness regarding the use of words, particularly on very public platforms.
