In a significant legal move, Telugu star Allu Arjun has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights. The matter is scheduled to be heard very soon by Justice Tushar Rao Gedela.

The actor has filed a suit against the unauthorized use of his identity, including his name, image, voice, and other distinctive personality traits. He has also raised concerns over the commercial exploitation of his persona through merchandise and other profit-driven activities without his consent.

Allu Arjun’s plea highlights the growing issue of celebrities’ identities being misused in the digital and commercial space, especially with the rise of AI-generated content and unlicensed branding.

Interestingly, the Delhi High Court has, in recent times, actively protected the personality rights of several prominent figures across industries. These include Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, spiritual preacher Aniruddhacharya, singer Jubin Nautiyal, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.

Actors such as Kajol Devgan, R. Madhavan, and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. have also received similar legal protection. Bollywood star Salman Khan has filed a comparable suit, reinforcing the trend.

Additionally, court orders have safeguarded the rights of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Nagarjuna, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and filmmaker Karan Johar.

In a recent instance, the court also extended protection to journalist Sudhir Chaudhary against the circulation of misleading AI-generated videos. Similarly, a John Doe order was passed in favor of podcaster Raj Shamani, recognizing his influence in the digital content space.

Allu Arjun’s move underscores a broader shift in the entertainment and media landscape, where public figures are increasingly taking legal steps to safeguard their identity in an era of rapid digital proliferation. The outcome of this case could further strengthen the legal framework around personality rights in India.
