A Tribute to Our Legendary Stars NTR, MGR, Says Tamil Star Karthi
Karthi has earlier tasted notable success in the Telugu states with hits like Awara and Kaidhi.
After impressing audiences with his powerful performance in Satyam Sudaram, Tamil star Karthi is back with a light-hearted entertainer titled Annagaru Vostaru (Vaa Vaathiyaar), which releases in the Telugu states on December 12.
Speaking at a promotional event, Karthi thanked Telugu audiences for consistently celebrating quality cinema and supporting his films. Talking about Annagaru Vostaru, he explained, “We love our heroes, and sometimes that love turns into devotion. That is the core of this film. As Krithi said, the director made this movie as a tribute to the mass commercial cinema of the 70s and 80s. This story needed a superhero-like hero. Why should superheroes only be Batman or Superman? In our culture, we already had NTR and MGR — people who changed cinema, politics, and society. They are our demigods. When they do something beneficial to society within a commercial film, it becomes even more special. NTR and MGR rose from humble beginnings to become legends. They are our superheroes. This film imagines what it would be like if such heroes emerged again.”
He added, “This is Nalan Kumarasamy’s film after eight years, and I can see how much Telugu directors admire him. The story is set in a fictional world. It was a privilege to play such a grand character. It’s a challenging film, and such projects take us to the next level. I believe I have performed well. I’m sure you’ll love the film. It’s very hard to make a movie like this again.”
