Hyderabad: Telangana has expanded access to free digital mathematics and science resources to more than nine lakh students in Grades 6–12 through a statewide initiative undertaken under the visionary leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister and Education Minister of Telangana, Sri A. Revanth Reddy; led by the Department of School Education; and supported by Khan Academy India. Completing its first year in the 2025–26 academic year, the initiative demonstrates how strong state leadership, structured planning, and data-informed implementation can deliver quality digital learning at scale.

Since its launch in June 2025, the initiative has trained close to 20,000 teachers and reached nearly 6,000 schools - approximately 75% of its total institutional base - across KGBVs, Model Schools, Residential Educational Institutions Society schools, and Government and Local Body Schools. The Department drove statewide implementation through clear guidelines that included provisions for weekly online mathematics and science practice. Programme data and implementation insights provided by Khan Academy India supported the leadership team in tracking progress and guiding decisions.


“Reaching more than nine lakh students—nearly 80% of the programme’s student base—in the first year is a significant milestone in Telangana’s effort to expand access to quality learning opportunities,” said Dr Yogita Rana, IAS, Principal Secretary, Education, Government of Telangana. “This progress reflects the collective commitment of our district teams, school leaders, and teachers, supported by structured implementation and regular monitoring. Our priority now is to build on this foundation and make digital mathematics and science practice a meaningful and consistent part of every student’s learning experience.”

The State Council of Educational Research and Training, working with Khan Academy India, prepared 200 Master Trainers, who trained Mandal Resource Persons. They, in turn, trained mathematics and science teachers at the mandal level.

Programme adoption was reflected in the strong ownership demonstrated across the school system. School leaders activated existing infrastructure and created supportive environments where students could access computers and practise regularly. KGBVs recorded more than one lakh student registrations—representing nearly 84% of their student base—with particularly strong interest in science.

During the current academic year, the partnership will focus on strengthening regular usage and the quality of student engagement. District nodal officers identified by the Department will support implementation and conduct weekly monitoring, helping schools convert the programme’s statewide reach into deeper and more consistent learning.
