Economy demands poly disciplinary knowledge and effort, say experts

Vijayawada: SRM University-AP organised a National Science Day seminar on ‘Green Growth Technologies and Skills’ on Tuesday, with a view to promoting awareness on the need for sustainable development and a green economy for human sustenance.

Prof Seeram Ramakrishna, director of the Center for Nanotechnology & Sustainability, National University of Singapore, delivered a speech in the presence of Prof Ranjit Thapa, dean, School of Engineering and Sciences (SEAS) as also Dr Karthik Rajendran, head of department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Dr Shoji Thottathil, assistant professor, SRM AP, and others.

Prof. Ramakrishna said, “Many challenges and needs of human beings that include climate change, extreme weather, biodiversity loss, food supply, nutrition, health care, security, urbanisation, sanitation, clean water and energy, resources, shelter, transportation and circular economy demand poly-disciplinary knowledge and effort.”

“India has undertaken a progressive stand that will lead to clear advancements in demographics, economic policies etc in the next 25 years,” he said.

Prof Ranjit Thapa said innovation would promote green growth technology and make sustainable development an integral part of academia. The seminar was also attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students from neighbouring colleges including Andhra Loyola College, Hindu College, and KBN College.
