BENGALURU: Leaders of JD (S), who are keen to put up a good show in coming zilla and taluk panchayat polls, seem to be disinterested in next month’s bypolls to three Assembly constituencies.

Sources said for JD(S), the panchayat polls are very important as they would have an impact on the future of the party.

A meeting of legislators, former MLAs', MLCs, defeated candidates and office-bearers of all district units has been convened in Bengaluru on Saturday to workout the strategy for panchayat polls.

JD (S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda and Mr Kumaraswamy would hold daylong consultations with other leaders on selection of candidates, the party’s strategy and other poll related issues.

The leaders are planning to field candidates in Hebbal and Devadurga but most unlikely to enter the fray in Bidar.

A decision whether or not to contest these by-elections would be taken on Monday.

Moreover, there are few contenders for ticket because they are aware that the bypolls would witness a direct contest between Congress and BJP in the three constituencies.
