UDUPI: This ‘green mosque’ not only has cool interiors, generates more power than it expends, but also conserves every drop of water!

This unique zero energy, eco-friendly mosque was inaugurated at Kodi village in Kundapur Taluk of Udupi district on Friday. An “L” shaped building plan, an elevated prayer hall, green vegetation and water tanks around it offer a naturally cooled ambience.

Besides, solar heat reflecting terrace floor lined with white china mosaics, and fitted with turbo vents keep the prayer space cool and also reduce warming of local micro climate. And, the natural cooling of the building is augmented by the wind scoop on 70 feet multifunctional minaret which forces down a draft of cool breeze into the prayer hall and also supports the tower structure of wind turbine mounted atop it.

“It is our small contribution to India’s march towards sustainable development,” says Syed Mohamed Beary of Beary’s Group, about the ‘green mosque.’
