Madras varsity VC search panel to scrutinise applicants from coming week

One of the search panel members has excused himself from attending the meeting for personal reasons.

CHENNAI: On the last working day of incumbent Madras University Vice-Chancellor R. Thandavan, the search panel appointed to shortlist the candidates for the VC post was convened on Thursday.

“Many professors have started applying and we are expecting a large number of candidates for the VC post. The panel will start to scrutinise the applications from next week,” sources in the panel told DC.

“In all likelihood the panel will send the list of shortlisted candidates before February 10 to the Chancellor of the University and Governor of Tamil Nadu,” sources added.

It is learnt that one of the search panel members has excused himself from attending the meeting for personal reasons.

The three-member VC search panel has Veda Narayanan, the Governor's nominee, as its convener. The other two members are R.Balasubramanian, director,  faculty of science and humanities, SRM University and R.Surendra Prasad, a former member of the University of Madras Syndicate.

The panel was given three months time to shortlist the three candidates for the said post.
