Bengaluru: A 25-year-old tile laying worker from Madhya Pradesh fired three rounds at another worker who was visiting his home in Shanthi Layout under K.R. Puram police limits on Monday afternoon. The accused, Mukesh, 25, and the injured victim, Binodh, 25, are from Morena district in Madhya Pradesh, the police said.

The incident occurred around 2.30 pm at Mukesh’s house, where Binodh had gone. Mukesh came to the city with the pistol only four days ago, the police said. Mukesh fired three rounds at Binodh’s chest and back before fleeing. Hearing the gunshots, neighbours rushed to Mukesh’s house and found Binodh lying in a pool of blood. They shifted him to a nearby hospital and informed the police.

Binodh was then taken to Manipal Hospital, where he was admitted. He is said to be in a critical condition.

“It looks like the shots have been fired from a country-made pistol, which might have been sourced from the Grid Region, covering Bhind, Gwalior, Morena, and Shivpuri in north Madhya Pradesh bordering Uttar Pradesh,” said an investigating officer. “We will ascertain other details only after the arrest of the culprit. We are also investigating how the labourer bought the firearm and got it into the city,” he said.

“It is too early to comment on the motive of the crime as the accused is at large and the victim is critical. We have gotten some clues about the accused and we are tracking him. The incident could be over a financial dispute,” said a senior police officer.

Mukesh is unmarried, while Binodh is married and has two children, the officer said.
