Bindu Ammini, first woman to enter Sabarimala Temple, attacked by unidentified man

Bindu alleged that the attack was orchestrated by Hindu outfits and that the man had earlier too caused such a problem

The agitators ended protest following assurances from police officials that women activists would not be given protection to visit temple.

Ammini had entered temple earlier this year and offered prayers along with Kanakadurga.

Ms Durga said that many other young women like her were prevented and forced back on the way to Sabarimala.

She then approached the Pulamanthol Grama Nyayalaya (village court) and secured a favourable ruling.

“Self-respecting young women must take it up as a challenge now,” she said.

Bindu Ammini (40) and Kanakadurga (39), fearing for their lives, had petitioned the top court seeking security.

Bindu and Kanaka Durga told SC that their life is in danger as Durga was later allegedly assaulted by her relatives.

Normally, ordinary people are not allowed to go through the gate, the panel said.

Mother-in-law was also hospitalised as she alleged that Durga had assaulted her.
