CM Revanth Promises 60 MLA Tickets for Women

Revanth Reddy said the Congress is committed to empowering women at all levels of governance

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday made a strong pitch for women’s political empowerment, announcing that 60 MLA tickets would be allotted to women in the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections. He said the Congress government would implement women’s reservation, ensuring 33 per cent of seats in the legislature are reserved for women.

Speaking at the launch of the Vana Mahotsavam programme at the Agriculture University in Rajendranagar, Revanth Reddy said he would take personal responsibility for giving 60 tickets to women, stating that “in Indiramma Rajyam, girls must stand with self-respect.” Reaffirming his earlier promise, he said the government aims to make one crore women “crorepatis” through welfare schemes.

He said that the State government has set the target of planting 18 crore saplings under ' Vana Mahotsavam 2025 'this year. The Chief Minister launched “Vana Mahotsavam” 2025 at PJT Agriculture University here.

He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to people to plant a sapling in the name of Amma (Mother) and urged Mothers also take the responsibility of planting saplings in their children's name. He said that underscored “Nature will protect us if we take care of it.”

Recalling a popular saying from older generations – “The forest ecosystem and our living are integral” is still relevant and two saplings should be planted in every house, Revanth Reddy said, “Telangana will turn into a complete green zone if we nurture trees like our children.”

Stating that the People's government is committed to the empowerment of the women community, the Chief Minister said he will take the responsibility of giving 60 party tickets to women in the next Assembly elections following the reports of women quota in legislative bodies will be in force in the next elections.

Listing out the women empowerment schemes including the responsibility of setting up solar plants and running government schools to girls, Revanth Reddy said that the government provided Rs.21,000 crore loans to women groups this year.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the State government was providing free RTC bus travel to women and encouraged them to rent out a fleet of 1000 buses to RTC and made them the owners of the buses. Women's groups are also provided a facility to market their products at the High Tech city where the multi-national companies are located.

Reiterating that the government has set a target of making one crore woman millionaires, Revanth Reddy said women SHGs will also be formed in urban areas. The government is making all efforts to empower women in all fields and ensure women lead a decent life with self respect in the Indiramma regime.

As part of the plantation drive, the Chief Minister planted a Rudraksha sapling in the university's Botanical Garden. Minister Konda Surekha and other officials were present.
