IMF begins virtual talks on Pakistan budget amid security concerns
The IMF has begun virtual discussions with Pakistan on the upcoming 2025-26 federal budget after delaying its Islamabad mission due to regional security concerns from the India-Pakistan conflict. Talks will continue until May 16, with the team expected to arrive in person by May 18, subject to safety conditions. The IMF has appointed Iva Petrova as its new Mission Chief, joining outgoing chief Nathan Porter. The lender is pressing for a primary budget surplus of 1.6% of GDP, with a proposed FBR tax target of Rs 14.3 trillion.
