Mizoram Reports 5 Deaths, 552 Landslides in 10 Days of Torrential Rain

Heavy rains over the past 10 days have triggered 552 landslides and damaged 152 houses across Mizoram, resulting in five deaths—three in Champhai, and one each in Aizawl and Serchhip districts, the state’s Disaster Management department said on Tuesday. At least 198 families abandoned their homes due to landslides or fissures, while 92 fled due to flooding. Champhai, the worst-hit district, also saw 209 landslides. Schools remained closed across the state, except in Saitual, and over 100 trucks carrying essential goods were stranded in Serchhip. The IMD recorded over 250 mm of rainfall in several districts in the past three days, with more rain forecast ahead.
