Shinde blames early monsoon for Mumbai flooding, opposition slams BMC failure
Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde on Monday blamed the early onset of monsoon and intense rainfall — over 200 mm in 12 hours — for flooding in Mumbai that disrupted traffic, calling it a "cloudburst-like" event. He said pre-monsoon works were planned for completion by June 10 but rains arrived 15 days early. As the BMC faced criticism, opposition leaders including Aaditya Thackeray and Nana Patole slammed the state government for poor preparedness, alleging corruption, neglect of drain cleaning, and failure to protect public infrastructure like Mantralaya from waterlogging.
