New Delhi:With the higher domestic revenues, gross goods and services tax (GST) collections rose 7.5 per cent to about Rs 1.96 lakh crore in July. With this, collections remained above Rs 1.8 lakh crore for a seventh consecutive month. However, experts said that the overall trend on a stable consumption in India helped increase GST mop-up in the country.

The finance ministry’s data on Friday showed that India’s GST collection in July 2025 jumped 7.5 per cent year-on-Year (YoY) to Rs 1,95,735 crore. “With this, collections remained above Rs 1.8 lakh crore for a seventh consecutive month. In April-July 2025, the collection has grown 10.7 per cent year-on-year to Rs 8,18,009 crore,” the data showed.

As per the data, the GST mop-up was Rs 1.82 lakh crore in July 2024, while last month, the collection was Rs 1.84 lakh crore. “The gross domestic revenue grew 6.7 per cent to Rs 1.43 lakh crore, while tax from imports rose 9.5 per cent to Rs 52,712 crore. The GST refunds shot up 66.8 per cent year-on-year to Rs 27,147 crore and the net GST revenue stood at Rs 1.69 lakh crore in July 2025, recording a 1.7 per cent year-on-year growth,” it showed.

Experts and analysts, however, said that despite geopolitical pressures, India’s overall trend on a stable consumption helped boost GST mop-up in the country. “Despite some global pressures and temporary dips, the overall trend shows a stable consumption pattern and consistent growth trajectory of the economy. The government’s timely refund process is also a great help to businesses, ensuring they have the working capital they need,” said EY India tax partner Saurabh Agarwal.

“On an encouraging note, the growth in gross GST revenues improved in July 2025 relative to the previous month. However, large refunds pulled down the performance of net revenues to 1.7 per cent. Interestingly, growth of GST on imports outpaced domestic revenues, with the latter being dampened by tepid cess collections,” said Aditi Nayar, chief economist & head - research & outreach, ICRA. #End#
