Axis Bank highlights MSME growth and commercial banking focus in Telangana
Speaking at a media interaction in Hyderabad, senior bank officials said Telangana continues to be an important market for the lender across retail, affluent, MSME and corporate banking segments.

Axis Bank on Thursday outlined its growing engagement with Telangana's MSME and commercial banking sectors, citing strong credit demand from industries such as pharmaceuticals, life sciences, electronics manufacturing, engineering services, logistics and technology-enabled businesses.
Speaking at a media interaction in Hyderabad, senior bank officials said Telangana continues to be an important market for the lender across retail, affluent, MSME and corporate banking segments.
According to the bank, its combined Small Business Banking (SBB), SME and Mid-Corporate portfolio stood at ₹2.93 lakh crore as of March 2026, accounting for 23.8 per cent of its overall loan book. The SBB, SME and Mid-Corporate segments recorded year-on-year growth of 17 per cent, 24 per cent and 33 per cent respectively.
Axis Bank currently serves more than 24,000 MSME accounts in Telangana, with Hyderabad, Medchal, Sangareddy, Warangal and Khammam emerging as key markets for commercial banking and ecosystem-led financing initiatives.
The bank said it has 199 branches across 30 districts in Telangana and employs over 2,800 people in the state. Its customer base includes more than 17 lakh active savings account holders, 1.48 lakh current account customers and 3.29 lakh term deposit customers.
Bank officials noted that while digital adoption is increasing, branches continue to play a significant role in business banking. Nearly 79 per cent of Small Business Banking business originates through branches, while around 75 per cent of unsecured business loan disbursements are processed through digital channels.
The bank also highlighted the growing role of ecosystem-based financing. Invoicemart, the Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) platform promoted by Axis Bank, has facilitated financing of more than ₹2.78 lakh crore worth of MSME invoices, helping businesses access working capital.
Addressing the media, Prashanth T.S., Group Head, Mid-Corporate and Medium Enterprises Group, said increasing formalisation, digital adoption and access to institutional capital are reshaping India's MSME sector. He noted that businesses are seeking faster credit decisions and more integrated banking solutions as they expand into national and global markets.
Vijay Shetty, Group Head, Commercial Banking Group, said Telangana continues to witness growth across a wide range of sectors, including pharmaceuticals, life sciences, electronics and defence manufacturing, creating demand for specialised financial services and banking support.
The bank also outlined its use of artificial intelligence and analytics to improve customer engagement and lending processes. Digital lending products and AI-powered tools are being used to support relationship managers and streamline customer interactions.
Beyond banking operations, Axis Bank said it is involved in livelihood and skill-development initiatives in parts of Telangana. The bank's programmes currently support rural families in districts including Narayanpet, Khammam, Medchal and Mahabubnagar, while employability initiatives for persons with disabilities are being implemented in partnership with Youth4Jobs Foundation in Hyderabad and Vikarabad.
