India’s Coal Output to Hit 1.31 Billion MT by FY27
Among Coal India's subsidiaries, Eastern Coalfields, Central Coalfields, Northern Coalfields and Mahanadi Coalfields saw production grow between 8 to 11 per cent, while others saw a decline in production that ranged from a decline of 5.5 per cent to as high as 11.1 per cent from last year
Chennai: The government has projected that coal production will touch 1310 million tonnes by FY27, growing 31 per cent from FY24 levels. In the nine years prior to FY23, coal production had grown by just 47 per cent.
All India coal production projection for the year 2026-27 is 1310 Million Tonnes (MT), out of which the projected target of coal production of Coal India is one billion tonnes, the government informed the Parliament.
Coal production in 2023-24 was 997.83 million tonnes, which was the highest ever recorded in a year.
However, during the nine years till FY23, India’s overall coal production had gone up by 47 per cent to 893.08 million tonnes against 609 million tonnes in FY15.
Coal production target for the current financial year is 1.08 billion tonnes. This includes a target of 838 million tonnes for Coal India.
In the first seven months of the fiscal between April and October, production went up by 6.1 per cent to 537 million tonnes against 506 million tonnes in the same period last year. Coal India’s production stood at 403.8 million tonnes, a 2.5 per cent increase from the previous year. This is 48 per cent of the overall production target for the year.
