Hyderabad: Dutch airline KLM has launched direct flights between Hyderabad and Amsterdam, making the city its fourth gateway in India after Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The airline will operate three weekly flights to begin with, and may increase frequencies depending on demand.

In an interaction during the launch, Claude Sarre, General Manager for India sub-continent, Air France KLM and Stefan Gumuseli, General Manager, Middle East & India- Air France KLM outlined the airline’s India strategy, its partnership with IndiGo, and the potential of the Hyderabad market.
On Hyderabad as a new gateway
“We start with three frequencies to test the market. If bookings continue the way we see now—with nearly 100% load factors—we will certainly scale up. Hyderabad is strategically important, both for passengers and for cargo, especially pharmaceuticals,” an official said.
On the IndiGo codeshare partnership
“From 30 cities in India, you can connect to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru or Hyderabad and then fly onwards to Amsterdam or Paris. For passengers, the benefit is seamless travel—one ticket, one check-in, and baggage through to the final destination. Importantly, travellers also earn Flying Blue miles on the domestic leg.”
On competition in India
“We believe competition is healthy. KLM, with 105 years of history, offers the right product, people, and service. Our new business class, premium comfort cabins, and improved catering bring the best of KLM to Hyderabad.”
On future plans
“This winter, KLM will operate 27 weekly flights from India, and with Air France together, the group will offer 54. We will continue to grow step by step. The US and Canada are very strong markets from Hyderabad due to the large diaspora.”
On sustainability
“KLM is investing €7 billion in fleet renewal and leading in sustainable aviation fuel usage. We are committed to making flying greener.”
The launch was celebrated at GMR Hyderabad International Airport, with KLM highlighting both passenger and cargo opportunities from the new route.
