Gayatri plans to up power capacity

Gayatri plans to double its power generation capacity from 2,640 megawatt (MW) to 5,280 MW with an estimated outlay of Rs 12,000 crore.

Hyderabad: Sembcorp Gayatri Ventures, which has successfully launched its thermal power complex in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, plans to double its power generation capacity from 2,640 megawatt (MW) to 5,280 MW with an estimated outlay of Rs 12,000 crore. The complex houses two 1,320 MW thermal power plants and while the first one was successfully completed and commenced in September 2015, the second plant with NCC is expected to be operational in 2016.

Gayatri Projects founder-chairman T. Subbarami Reddy said, “We are planning to double the capacity to 5,280 MW and this will entail a cost of Rs 12,000 crore. As most of the infra is in place, the cost of expansion will be much lower than the investment in phase one,which was about Rs 20,000 crore (about $3 billion).”
