New Delhi: India’s third-largest telecom service provider Vodafone Idea (Vi) on Friday said that it has commenced the next phase of its fifth-generation (5G) network roll-out in additional cities in India, while bolstering 4G capacity. Vi’s 5G services are already available in 29 cities in the country. The company has also outlined its network expansion roadmap, service innovations, and customer-first priorities as it steps into 2026.

In his New Year message, the Vi chief executive Abhijit Kishore highlighted the company’s continued investments in strengthening network infrastructure across India. “Vi has added a significant number of new towers nationwide to enhance coverage, capacity, and overall network for more robust connectivity and superior networking experience,” Kishore said in a letter, adding that the company has strengthened its digital services ecosystem through strategic partnerships in travel, the Internet of Things (IoT), fintech, MSME ennoblement, and future-ready connectivity solutions.

“Vi has launched 5G in 29 cities and has now commenced the next phase of expansion to bring 5G to many more cities nationwide, while continuing to strengthen our AI-based self optimised 4G network. The telco commercially launched 5G network in March this year, initially in metros such as Mumbai and Delhi and gradually scaled up to 29 cities in its 17 priority circles,” Kishore said.

Vi also highlighted its industry-first launch of International call display and calling name presentation (CNAP), enabling users to see the names of Vi callers even if they are not saved in the contact list, a move aimed at improving call transparency and trust. “With your needs at the heart of everything we do, we remain focused on innovation, enriching our service portfolio over the year with several new and enhanced offerings,” he said.
