Bhubaneswar: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) on Sunday signed a technology licensing agreement with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) in Dubai for deploying EGA’s UAE-developed DX+ Ultra aluminium smelting technology at its proposed 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) brownfield expansion project at Angul in Odisha.

The agreement marks a major milestone in NALCO’s expansion plans and is expected to strengthen its position as a globally competitive aluminium producer.

The Technology Licensing Agreement was signed in the presence of NALCO Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Brijendra Pratap Singh and EGA Chief Executive Officer Abdulnasser Bin Kalban. NALCO Director (Projects and Technical) Jagdish Arora and Director (Finance) Abhay Kumar Behuria were also present.

Under the agreement, EGA will provide NALCO with the technology licence, technical know-how, designs and other information required to implement the DX+ Ultra technology. EGA will also extend technical support during various stages of the project.

DX+ Ultra is a high-amperage aluminium smelting technology designed to improve productivity and energy efficiency. Its adoption is expected to help NALCO develop a technologically advanced and competitive smelter with optimised capital and operating costs.

Speaking on the occasion, Singh said the adoption of EGA’s advanced technology would help make the Angul expansion project one of the most efficient aluminium smelters in India.

“The technology will support NALCO’s growth and expansion plans, strengthen India’s aluminium ecosystem and contribute to economic growth while promoting greater environmental efficiency and the vision of a Viksit Bharat,” he said.

The partnership is expected to enhance NALCO’s technological efficiency, productivity and sustainability while helping meet the growing demand for aluminium in strategic and emerging sectors of the Indian economy.
