Mumbai: With a wealth of $82 billion, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani is the only Indian billionaire in the top 10 in Hurun Global Rich List 2023. The 66-year-old industrialist has overtaken Gautam Adani (61) to bag the richest Indian title.

While both Ambani and Adani saw their wealth erode on a year-on-year basis, Adani ended up losing 35 per cent of his wealth due to the US short seller Hindenburg in January accusing the Adani Group of large scale accounting fraud, and stock manipulation leading to serious concerns and a free fall in its share prices.

On the other hand, Ambani lost less at 20 per cent between 2022 and 2023. Adani, who was briefly the second richest person in the world on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, saw his wealth plummet from $119 billion on January 24, to $57.2 billion now.

With a net loss of $28 billion, Adani slipped to the second spot. “Gautam Adani lost ₹3,000 crore every week over the last year,” said the report.

“Just before the report, Adani was briefly the world’s second richest person, noted the report which pegged Adani’s overall fortune at $ 53 billion as of mid-March.
