JSW Cement Ltd plans to double green cement output

The current cement making capacity in eastern region is nearly 4MTPA.

The company reported a 44.10 per cent fall in consolidated net profit at Rs.626 crore for the quarter ended June 30.

Kolkata: JSW Cement Ltd, an arm of the $13 billion JSW Group with interests in steel, energy, infrastructure and cement, has lined up plans to double its green cement capacity over next couple of years. At present, the company produces green cement at its Salboni unit in West Bengal to cater to the demand of the eastern region.

The current cement making capacity in eastern region is nearly 4MTPA. The ramp-up of cement production capacity in the region will involve a combination of brownfield expansions at Salboni unit and Shiva Cement plants and a greenfield project in Orissa. These projects are expected to be commissioned in various phases until 2023.

The present market scenario for green cement gives us the confidence that our plans to scale up production capacity will enable us to meet customer needs for green cement in this region," said Nilesh Narwekar, CEO, JSW Cement.

Interestingly, JSW Cement is also very close to commissioning its captive power plant at Salboni for uninterrupted power supply at competitive rates. Besides, it has dedicated rakes for ensuring timely & quick delivery of raw materials and a fleet of trucks to facilitate smooth transport of cement to its dealers and sub-dealers. All these initiatives have helped the company enhance its operational efficiency, top company officials said.
