Hyderabad may soon incubate defence companies

Minister for NRI affairs K.T. Rama Rao sought such database in May this year to provide legal, financial and other needy assistance to people from the state working in the Gulf countries in case of them getting stranded due to various reasons.

Hyderabad: IT minister K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday said that the TS government was mulling to set up an exclusive incubator for startups working in defence sector.

Speaking at a two-day conclave of defence and aerospace electronic industry on ‘Deftronics-2017’ (defence and electronics), the minister said, “We have series of discussions with the scientific advisor to Raksha Mantri (defence minister) and with the support of Centre we will be launching a defence electronics and defence focused incubator in Hyderabad.”

He said that the government was planning to develop a million square feet workspace to accommodate startups across different sectors under the state’s ‘Innovation Policy’. “We are going to launch the world’s largest incubator by next year with a space of 3.5 lakh square feet to accommodate at least 1,000 startups at one roof,” he said.
