Hyderabad: Dasara marks an auspicious occasion for people to buy new vehicles. The sentiment sees an increase in sales every year. It is ditto with vehicle owners who are obsessed with fancy registration numbers.

Telangana Road Transport Authority (RTA) expects a sale of at least 2,000 vehicles this Dasara. Officials expect that many high-end vehicle owners will participate in fancy number auctions.

In August, the RTA at Khairatabad earned an overwhelming Rs 53,34,894 in the auction for fancy numbers. Incidentally, TS 09 GC 9999 went for a staggering Rs 21.60 lakh.

According to a RTA official, the October 12 fancy number auction fetched them Rs 41,86,370 with the prized catch, worth all of Rs 15.53 lakh, was bagged by Muppa Homes Pvt Ltd for TS 09 GD 9999.

RTA officials pointed out “given that competition for fancy numbers is more for high-end vehicles, the Dasara festival will fetch us more than Rs 50 lakh.”

Elaborating on going about participation in the auction, the official said, “for reserving any desired number, one has to pay a minimum fee of Rs 2,000 for two-wheelers and Rs 5,000 for four-wheelers, while for special numbers like 1, 9, 999 and 9999, the initial bidding starts at Rs 50,000.”
