We might have been neglecting our basic rights while filling petrol in our vehicles at pumps. Marketing Discipline Guidelines have set a bunch of free – of – cost basic services and amenities that each customer has a right over. Public sector oil marketing companies including IOCL, BPCL, HPCL among others are obliged to follow these guidelines.

Here are a few of them:

Free Air Facility: Customers can enjoy unlimited access to air during the operating hours of the outlet. They are also discouraged from tipping the employees.

Availability of clean toilets: Each pump must be equipped with clean toilets with proper lighting and water facilities.

First aid box: Another primary facility that petrol pumps must offer are first aid boxes with valid medicinal aids.

Accurate quality and quantity of products: Employees must ensure quality products at accurate quantities and prices. The ‘zero’ setting on pump meter must be shown to the customer before the start of each delivery.

Availability of correct details: Contact details of the relevant persons and suggestions/complaint book must be maintained and made readily available to the customers.
