Top-end Range Rover Velar SV Autobiography coming to India
The new top-end Velar starts off at £86,120 in the UK and it would also be introduced in India.
Pune: Tata Motors-owned British luxury sports car maker Jaguar Land Rover on Tuesday unveiled the new version of Range Rover Velar midsize SUV called Range Rover Velar SV Autobiography (SVA) Dynamic.
The new top-end Velar starts off at £86,120 in the UK and it would also be introduced in India. However, officially the company has not yet announced its India launch or pricing. In India the top-end 3 litre diesel Range Rover Velar HSE is priced Rs 1.32 crore at the Mumbai showroom. When introduced in India, the new Velar SVA will directly take on the popular Porsche Macan Turbo SUV.
This new Velar SVA is equipped with a 550HP, 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It is interesting to note that Land Rover has not badged the new range-topping Velar as an SVR (the top-spec Range Rover Sport is an SVR), and instead, gets the SV Autobiography (SVA) Dynamic badge from the full-size Range Rover.
Significantly, the powerful Velar SVA is capable of 0-100 kph sprint in just about 4.5 seconds, the company claimed. The SUV can go on to a top speed of 273 km per hour. The brand also claims that the Velar SVA is tuned towards the refinement and comfort instead of the performance and dynamics.
The range-topping Velar also features improved brakes (395mm front and 396mm rear) with four pistons, alongside firmer air chambers for the air suspension. Upgraded anti-roll bars combined with a revised variable damping system ensure handling matches the pace on offer. The brand claims to have recalibrated the steering, all-wheel drive system, 8-speed transmission, and the active rear differential, all to improve the dynamics.
A stronger transfer box has also been added to the all-wheel drive system to ensure the driveline can withstand the supercharged V8’s 680Nm of torque. It is also equipped with a lighter and louder active exhaust.
“The challenge to develop the Range Rover Velar SV Autobiography Dynamic Edition was to increase performance without compromising the composure, capability and refinement inherent in Range Rover Velar,” Michael van der Sande, managing director at Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations, said. “We have created an SUV that strikes a brilliant balance between go-anywhere practicality, dynamic performance and relaxing comfort,” he boasted.
On the outside, the new Velar gets larger air-intakes, a new grille and rear bumper, quad-exhaust pipes as well as lighter 21 or 22-inch wheels. It also gets new colours and a contrast black roof. On the inside, it gets all the creature comforts from the current top-end Velar, along with unique quilted leather in four colours. The Velar SVA also gets a carbon- fibre interior option.
