Bajaj Auto has finally announced the official name of its upcoming flagship motorcycle. It won't be Pulsar CS400 or Kratos VS400 but will rather be called the “Dominar 400”. The word “Dominar” in Spanish means "to dominate" or “to excel or exceed in power”. Bajaj will launch this motorcycle on December 15th, 2016.

Confirming the launch, Eric Vas, president (motorcycle business), Bajaj Auto, said, “We are delighted to announce the name of the most anticipated brand from the Bajaj Auto stable. The Dominar 400 has already created lot of excitement amongst bikers, which is befitting for what’s going to be one of the most path breaking products in the history of the Indian motorcycle industry.”

The Pune-based bikemaker has already commenced production of the Dominar 400 at its Chakan plant and the first motorcycle was rolled out from the facility on 18th November. We also called some Bajaj dealers to get more information on the upcoming motorcycles. And a few of them told us that they have started taking bookings for Rs 1,000 or more, even without any confirmation on the bike's name. We also learnt that the upcoming Bajaj flagship could be seen at showrooms in some major cities within a week.

Though the Dominar 400 hasn't been revealed yet, we have a decent set of information from the Pulsar CS400 concept and the spy pictures of the bike. The production-spec model takes a lot of cues from the concept model, especially when it comes to the styling. The bike is powered by a KTM 390 Duke-inspired 373cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that is said to deliver around 35PS of power and 33Nm of torque. The motor is expected to be tuned for better torque delivery at relatively lower engine speeds as compared to its KTM sibling. With an attractive design and features like dual LCD instrument console, full LED lighting, large disc brakes and much more, the entry-level power cruiser is expected to fall in a price bracket of Rs 1.5 - 1.7 lakh, while ABS will be offered as an optional extra.

Talking about the rivals, the Bajaj Dominar 400 will compete with the likes of the Mahindra Mojo and the Royal Enfield motorcycles.
