As Water Level in Krishna River Rises, Prakasam Barrage Heading For Issue of First Flood Warning
Rivulets and other water bodies were in spate following heavy rains in Kamareddy, Medak and other districts since Wednesday morning, resulting in disruption of road links between villages
Vijayawada: With Krishna river getting huge inflow of water from its upstream catchment areas and projects, Prakasam Barrage is heading for the first flood warning by afternoon with discharge expected to cross 3.94 lakh cusecs into the sea downstream.
The water resources authorities say that the water discharge at the barrage recorded at 3.56 lakh cusecs at 10.00 am and 3.74 lakh cusecs of water is being released from Pulichintala project into the Prakasam Barrage and with this, the water level to rise further and is expected to touch the first flood warning.
Meanwhile, the authorities are getting ready to sound high alert so that all along the course of the river downstream, safety measures will be initiated to avoid any people to enter the river for a swim or to take their livestock for bath and fishermen are alerted not to enter the river for fishing in boats.
Several streams and rivulets are overflowing disrupting the road connectivity at some places in and around the city in both the Krishna and NTR districts and the authorities are keeping a close guard to avoid any untoward incidents.
From upstream Srisailam project, 3.63 lakh cusecs are being discharged while from Nagarjuna Sagar too, 3.17 lakh cusecs of water is being discharged downstream.
In Godavari river too, 5.30 lakh cusecs of water is being discharged from Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram and with water level rising at Bhadrachalam, water level at the Barrage is expected to rise further in the next few hours.
