Azim Premji tops donors list in India

Premji has been named the Most Generous Indian†for the third year running.

Following the said block deal, the shares of the company closed at Rs 256.50 Friday, down 4.58 per cent from its previous close on the BSE.

Mumbai: Wipro chairman Azim Premji, who donated Rs 27,514 crore for education, has been named the “Most Generous Indian” for the third year running, followed by Infosys founders Nandan Nilekani and Naray-ana Murthy in the second and third slots respectively.

The richest Indian Mukesh Ambani with wealth of $19.1 billion, figures sixth in the Hurun India Philanthropy List, donating just Rs 345 crore towards health. This amounts to a mere 1.25 per cent of what Mr Premji has given.
