KTR woos US to stop deportation

There was no communiqué from the US Consulate in the city on the meeting.

Hyderabad: IT minister K.T. Rama Rao who met US Consul General Michael Mullins here on Tuesday got an assurance that all the issues leading to deportation of students from the Telugu-speaking states would be resolved soon.
 
While there was no communiqué from the US Consulate in the city on the meeting, the minister told the media that in many case of deportation, there were lapses in the documents submitted by the students.
 
Mr Rama Rao said Mr Mullins had told him that the problems arose due to the students approaching fake agents to submit documents to get visas to travel to the US, as well as for obtaining I-20 forms from the US universities  concerned.
 
The consul-general assured the minister that in future more US-India education fairs would be conducted to create awareness among students to avoid similar incidents.
 
Mr Rama Rao said he had told the US official that students spend a lot of money and time in getting a visa from the consulate and they should not be deported at the port of entry in the US.
 
He also assured that the Telangana state government would steps to eradicate the rackets which create fake documents and certificates for the students.
 
He suggested that the consulate should check the genuineness the documents before granting visas. Mr Mullins said he would take the suggestions to the US authorities.
