Pongal bonus for government employees

Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Sunday announced a ‘Pongal’ festival bonus for government employees and teachers which will cost the state exchequer Rs 326.83 crore.
In a press release, Jayalalithaa stated that bonus is being provided only to labourers working in industries and factories. She added that considering the importance of government employees and teachers, the government has been disbursing festival bonus and other assistance to encourage them. This initiative was first started by former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran.
“Pongal gift will also be disbursed to pensioners, persons receiving special bonus and family pension,” her statement further said. Officers and teachers coming under Group C and D, for the period 2014-15 will receive bonus equivalent to 30 days of pay with a ceiling of Rs 3,000. Group A and B employees and those who have completed service of more than 240 days including Anganwadi workers and labourers roped in a daily wage workers, contract workers, would get a special bonus of Rs 1,000. Pensioners and those receive family pensions including former Village Administrative Officers will receive Rs 500 as bonus,
