Hyderabad: Taking a short route to meet a friend cost a 19-year-old Engineering student his life in Petbasheerabad area on Tuesday night.

E.Saikiran  fell from the third floor of the hostel he was staying as he tried to  jump into an adjacent hostel building.

Students said it was a regular practice for the inmates of both the  hostels to cross over like this, rather than climbing down the stairs.  Sai and his friend were at it Tuesday night.

Sai’s friend managed to cross the three-feet gap. Sai, who was taking this route for the first  time, slipped and fell in the gap between the two buildings, injuring his head and ribs. He died at hospital.  Saikiran was a native of Julurupadu in Khammam district and doing B tech first year at Narsimha Reddy Engineering College in Maisammaguda.

“He was staying at Sai Balaji Hostel there. Adjacent to this hostel was  located Akshaya hostel. The incident happened around 4. 30pm," said  Petbasheerabad SI Venkatesham.

The CCTV that recorded the incident showed Sai was not willing to make  a try but his friend urged him on. A case of suspicious death has been  registered and the body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
