Shilpa Shirodkar, who was last seen in Ek Muthi Aasman, will now play the role of an over possessive mother in Silsila Pyaar Ka. The actress tells us about her role in the show, the telly industry and being a mother offscreen.

According to you, how has the TV industry changed over the years?
The industry has changed and the change is for the better. People have become more professional; everything is more planned and organised.

I think whatever happens, happens for the best and I am quite happy with the current phase that the industry is in.

You play the role of an over-possessive mother on the show. Would you say that you’re one occasionally too?
Honestly I haven’t come across such possessive moms, but every mom loves her children. A mother’s love is unconditional. Playing this role was extremely challenging for me because I am not the person I am portraying on the show.

The channel and producers had faith in me that I will pull off this role of Janki Tiwari. I am just trying to live up to their expectation. I would love to meet an over possessive mother so that I can tell her to calm down and relax a little because freedom is important.

Do you miss doing films?
I do not miss doing films. I consider myself lucky doing TV and I think that this is my golden phase. I believe in living the moment. I had a good time when I did films and I am having a good time doing TV.

In real life what are your concerns — as a mother in today’s day and age?
I feel that everything is changing so fast that we as parents need to make sure that we bring our children up well.

The hopes in today’s generations are much higher than we had in our times. Today even a small kid wants a cell phone, if not to make calls, then to play games. Coping up with them is a challenge as well.
