BENGALURU: After Whitefield, the authorities might see a protest over another major IT corridor, ORR and Sarjapur Road, with its bad roads and traffic issues. A few residents and commuters have decided to gather on December 18, to protest against the failing infrastructure in the city.

Rajeeb Menon, a commuter, points out, “Thousands of commuters suffer daily, due to the bad roads, traffic and pollution in this area. We as citizens have a basic right to good roads and clean air. As these requirements are not provided to us, we have to come out and fight for our rights.”

The ORR stretch from Ibblur to Marathahalli is home to Ecospace, Embassy Tech Village, Prestige Tech park and Cessna Business Park. In addition there are hospitals, scores of commercial buildings, offices and more than 50,000 residential units. Several lakh square feet of space, both residential and commercial, is under construction.

Rajesh Gupta says,“We face a problem every day. The roads are getting congested day by day and traffic is steadily increasing. We can see that Tech parks near Bellandur are increasing the number of buildings in their campuses. Two more buildings are almost ready and it is expected that another 5K people (or even more) will commute in this direction daily. The authorities should stop giving permission to such Tech parks to construct buildings till the traffic issue is resolved.”

Prestine G, a resident says, “A new Tech park is coming up in Carmelaram. Many more residential units dot the scene from Ibblur junction to Sarjapura, Haralur road, Hosa road and adjoining areas have apartments with thousands of flats and thousands more under construction. Sarjapura road and Varthur road are home to around 30+ schools. Despite this, the state of Sarjapura Road and Outer Ring Road has remained the same. All this activity in the Sarjapur ORR corridor has put tremendous stress on the resources affecting quality of life of residents and commuters alike.”
