Lucknow: Senior Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan has said that he would support the Shiv Sena if it demolished the Taj Mahal and built a Shiva temple in its place. The senior minister said that the Taj Mahal should be demolished and a temple for Lord Shiva should be built.

“I will put the first hammer on the Taj Mahal if they (Shiv Sena) agree to my idea,” he told reporters in Rampur. The Shiv Sena had recently claimed that the Taj Mahal was built on a place where a Lord Shiva temple was earlier situated. Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, was built in the 17th century under Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

Mr Azam Khan was apparently taking a dig at Shiv Sena when he made this statement. Mr Azam Khan also demanded for a ban on RSS and termed it a ‘terror outfit’. Reacting sharply to the minister’s statement, Uttar Pradesh BJP president Laxmikant Bajpai dared Mr Khan to impose a ban on the RSS.

“His party is in power in Uttar Pradesh and he is a powerful minister. I challenge him to ban the RSS and then see the consequences for himself,” he said.
