Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s commitment towards uninterrupted power supply and the apathy of the government in reimbursing the amount incurred on tariff subsidy has pushed the power distribution companies (TSdiscoms) into a huge financial crisis.

With almost no hydel power generation, both the Southern and Northern Power Distribution Companies of TS Limited were buying power from private firms at Rs 4 to Rs 5 per unit.

The power demand during Rabi and Kharif seasons in 2015 went up to 160 million units per day and the TS discoms were able to meet it due to their power purchase agreements in addition to the Central generating stations’ share and other sources.
