Madras High Court
ChennaiThe Madras high court has dismissed a petition challenging a procession by Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazham (TMMK) or any other association’s demonstration on December 6 to protest the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992.

Justice M.M. Sundresh passed the order on a petition filed by Hindu Munnetra Kazhagam, represented by its general secretary K. Gopinath. The petitioner said the TMMK has planned a procession on December 6. He said hoardings had been put up in various areas and they displayed ‘deadly’ weapons, unwanted slogans and photographs of the mosque destruction.  Such exhibits would create a rift between members of different communities.

He sent a representation to the authorities on November 23 requesting them to remove the hoardings and not to give permission to TMMK or any other association to take out processions on December 6. As there was no response, he approached the court.

Justice Sundresh said there was  no material to come to the conclusion that if permission was granted, the TMMK would act contrary to law. The court did not find any reason to entertain the petition.

Meanwhile, K Balu, district secretary, Hindu Munnani, Villiupuram,  filed a petition seeking permission to hold meetings in connection with Ram Janma Bhoomi issue. The court adjourned the matter to December 1 (Tuesday).
