THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress MLA Palode Ravi is the frontrunner for the post of deputy Speaker for which elections will be held on December 2 .

The deputy Speaker post became vacant following the election of N. Sakthan as speaker subsequent  to the death of former speaker G. Karthikeyan.

According to the sources, though the post was offered to K. Muraleedharan, the  Congress (I) group rejected the offer as only a few months are left for the term of the current Assembly to end.

Hence, the post is being offered to Palode Ravi of the Congress (A) group. Though the RSP had earlier staked its claim for the deputy speaker post for Kovoor Kunjumon, it later withdrew citing the short term remaining.

The LDF is yet to finalise the candidate for the deputy speaker election. Meanwhile, the 15th session of the current Assem-bly will be held from Nov-ember  30 to December 17, with eleven days of sitting.

Mr Sakthan said that various crucial Bills and ordinances, including the Anti-hartal Bill, real estate regulation ordinance, land tax amendment ordinance and town and country planning ordinances were likely to come up in the session.

The business advisory committee meeting on November 30 will decide on the Bills and ordinances to be considered. Discussion on supplementary grants would  also be held during the session.

He also said that the Assembly museum would be named after  G. Karth-ikeyan and a media award would be instituted in his memory.
