ALAPPUZHA: The feud between the CPM district  and local committees at Chennithala  and  Thriperunthura  has been resolved with E.N. Narayanan stepping as   Thriperunthura  panchayat president on Thursday.

Mr Narayan,  who  was sacked along with a panchayat  area committee member K. Sadasivan Pillai  and panchayat member D. Gopakrishnan  by the district committee, gave in after the district leadership issued an ultimatum to him to step down as president.

Mr  Narayanan was elected as president on November 19  though the district committee had opposed his candidature.  The ultimatum came after the  trio approached  the state leadership for justice.

Mr Narayanan said that he decided to step down after the  party asked him and added that he still wanted to be a servant of the party.

“The decision on the sacking will be  reviewed by the committee concerned. The election of  the new president will be held as per the instruction of the election commission,”  he said.

The district committee on Wednesday had decided to sack all local leaders who dared to defy the party decision.
