ChennaiA call centre employee was killed and his mother seriously injured when a wall collapsed on his house in Otteri on Saturday.

The deceased, 20-year old Raju and his mother are residing in a house on Parapramar Koil street in Otteri and the wall of the neighbouring compound collapsed on theirs due to the incessant rains.

Raju was killed on the spot, while his mother, 50-year old Radha Bai, was pulled out of the debris.
She has been admitted in KMC hospital and is in critical condition.
Raju and his mother were also living in a very old house in Otteri with a tiled roof and it easily gave away due to the weight of the wall.

According to the police, the neighbouring house was already half demolished, but as the owners had got a stay order from the High Court to prevent the demolition, only a part of the house abutting the wall was left standing.

Many neighbouring houses were also affected by the collapse as a lot of debris fell outside their houses trapping them inside. Two fire engines were summoned to the spot to rescue the residents.
