Kochi: Rajesh P.R., a native of Desam near Aluva, is all set to quit his job in a multi-national company to don the mantle of Chengamanad grama panchayat president.
A first-timer in electoral politics, the 32-year-old sought votes with the promise of bringing back agriculture to the “farming land”, Desam, on the outskirts of Ernakulam district.
“I entered the fray after feeling sad at the sight of barren lands that were once lush and green. Now factories emitting poison have popped up everywhere in my native place. I have been active taking the message of farming besides cultural activities for years now. The local committee of the CPM backed my ideas and fielded me in the polls,” Mr Rajesh, who works as the corporate sales manager at the Kochi office of Panasonic India Pvt Ltd, said.
This alumni of St Albert’s college won by a margin of 138 votes, contesting as a CPM candidate from ward 16 of the Chengamanad panchayat.
“Now I am going to quit my job so as to devote maximum time for mission ‘Agriculture’. Besides health and education will be the other priorities,” Rajesh said.
